1. Who We Are
See Eat is a mobile application developed and operated by Junior Oscar under SBS Capital ("we", "us", "our"). See Eat lets you browse and contribute real photos of restaurant dishes so you can make informed choices about what to order.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, contact us at Oscar@sbscapital.co.uk.
2. What Data We Collect and Why
2.1 Data collected without an account (all users)
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Approximate location | To find restaurants near you. Your location is used in-session only and is never stored on our servers. |
| Browsing activity | Requests to load restaurant and dish photo content. These are standard network requests and are not logged or linked to you individually. |
2.2 Data collected when you create an account
Signing in is optional. You only need an account to upload photos, like photos, or report content. We support Sign in with Apple only. When you sign in:
| Data | Source | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| A unique user identifier (UUID) | Generated by Apple and provided to us | Identifies your account in our database. We never receive your real Apple ID email unless you choose to share it. |
| Liked photos | Recorded by you | So your likes persist across sessions and devices. |
| Uploaded photos | Provided by you | To display your contributions to other users. |
| Reports you submit | Recorded by you | To moderate content and keep the community safe. |
We do not collect your name, date of birth, payment information, or any other personal details beyond what is listed above.
2.3 Photos you upload
When you upload a photo of a dish:
- The image is stored in our cloud storage and is publicly visible to all users, including those without an account.
- It is linked to your user identifier so you can manage (delete) it.
- iOS strips location metadata (EXIF data) from photos before they leave your device — we do not receive or store photo location data.
3. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)
| Processing activity | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Using your location to find nearby restaurants | Consent — you grant location permission when prompted. You can revoke this at any time in iOS Settings. |
| Managing your account and uploaded content | Contractual necessity — processing is required to provide the features you've signed up for. |
| Content moderation (reports, auto-hiding flagged photos) | Legitimate interests — to maintain a safe, high-quality community experience. |
| Displaying your photos publicly | Contractual necessity — public display is the core purpose of uploading. |
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect to:
- Show you restaurants and dish photos near your location
- Display photos you and others have uploaded
- Record and display like counts
- Allow you to manage your own content (upload, delete)
- Moderate content reported by users
- Automatically hide photos that receive a significant number of reports
We do not:
- Sell your data to any third party
- Use your data for advertising or marketing profiling
- Share your data with any third party except those listed in section 5
- Send you marketing emails or push notifications
5. Third-Party Services
Supabase (Supabase Inc., USA)
We use Supabase for our database, cloud storage, and authentication infrastructure. Your user identifier, uploaded photos, likes, and reports are stored on Supabase servers. Transfers of personal data from the UK to the USA are made under the UK's international data transfer mechanisms. See supabase.com/privacy.
Google Places API (Google LLC, USA)
We use Google Places to look up restaurant names, addresses, and locations. When you search for a restaurant, your search query and approximate location are sent to Google. We do not send any account information to Google. See policies.google.com/privacy.
Apple (Sign in with Apple)
Authentication is handled by Apple's Sign in with Apple service. Apple provides us with an anonymised identifier only — we never receive your Apple ID email address unless you explicitly choose to share it. See apple.com/legal/privacy.
6. International Data Transfers
Our database and storage provider (Supabase) operates servers in the United States. By using See Eat with an account, your personal data will be transferred to and stored in the USA. We ensure such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards in accordance with UK GDPR, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.
7. Data Retention
| Data | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Uploaded photos | Until you delete them or delete your account |
| Likes | Until you unlike the photo, or you delete your account |
| Reports | Retained for moderation purposes; not linked to your identity after account deletion |
| User identifier | Deleted when you delete your account |
When you delete your account through the app, your user identifier is permanently removed, your likes are deleted, and your photos are anonymised (the link between the photo and your account is severed) rather than deleted, so community content is preserved.
If you would prefer that your photos also be deleted upon account closure, contact us at Oscar@sbscapital.co.uk before deleting your account and we will action this manually.
8. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
As a UK resident, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure — ask us to delete your data, or delete your account directly in the app (Settings → Delete Account).
- Right to restriction — ask us to pause processing while a dispute is resolved.
- Right to data portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (e.g. location), withdraw it at any time via iOS Settings.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at Oscar@sbscapital.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
9. Children's Privacy
See Eat is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including:
- All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
- Access to the database is controlled by row-level security policies — users can only read, write, or delete their own content.
- Uploaded photos are stored in a managed cloud environment with access controls.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. For significant changes, we will notify users via the app where reasonably possible. Your continued use of See Eat after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
